Meet Our Staff

 

Randall Borri, DVM

Dr. Randy Borri graduated in 1970 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In 1972, Dr. Borri founded Bristol Veterinary Service along with Co-founder Dr. Fred Culbert, now retired.   Dr. Borri’s commitment to his profession has

Made Bristol Veterinary Service a familiar name in the Southern Wisconsin/Northern Illinois equine community.

 

Dr. Borri has spent the last 30+ years committed to the Equine industry.  He excels in equine lameness, sport medicine and reproduction.  He attends continuing educational seminars yearly to be able to provide the latest in technique and technology. 

 

He has been the past president of the Wisconsin Equine Practitioner Association (WEPA) and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Association of Equine Practitioner (AAEP) and the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA).   He, along with Dr. Nelson, are the on call Veterinarians for the Wisconsin State Fair.

 

Together with his wife, Janice, they enjoy leisure days with their grandchildren.  During his free time, Dr. Borri can also be found restoring old tractors. 

 

Kevin Nelson, DVM

Dr. Nelson co-owns and practices large animal medicine at Bristol Veterinary Service.  After receiving his veterinary medical degree in 1985 from Ross University, Dr. Nelson practiced in Adrian, Michigan for one and a half years before joining BVS in 1987.

 

Dr. Nelson’s talents and community contributions are many and varied.  Twice a week he is the attending veterinarian at the Racine Zoo where he examines and treats a wide variety of species from alligators to zebras.  He has served as the veterinarian for the Kenosha County Fair for 20 years and for the Midwest Therapeutic Riding Program for more than 15 years.

 

Kevin, along with Deanna and their son Nathan operate and manage Freehorse Farm. The farm specializes in dressage and eventing.  In his free time, Kevin also competes in combined driving.

 

In 2007, Dr. Nelson was awarded the Veterinarian of the Year Award at the 92nd Annual Convention of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association (WVMA).  This award is given by the WVMA annually to a member who has made major contributions to the advancement of the veterinary medical profession.

 

Lauren Jacobsen, DVM

Dr. Jacobsen grew up in Gurnee, IL, riding and competing horses in the dressage and hunter/jumper arenas.  She attended the University of Illinois for both undergraduate work and veterinary medicine.  She completed an equine medicine and surgery internship at Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center in Cave Creek, AZ.  Following her internship, she worked primarily on pleasure and sport horses with an equine ambulatory practice in Mesa, AZ.  Dr. Jacobsen enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but has a special interest in ophthalmology.  When Dr. Jacobsen is not working with horses, she enjoys hiking, music, skiing, and spending time with her golden retriever, Bella.

 

Steve Graham, DVM

Dr. Graham graduated in 2006 from Ross University, School of Veterinary Medicine.  He attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Veterinary Medical School for clinical training.  After acquiring his DVM he interned at Kendall Road Equine Hospital in Elgin Illinois.  Before coming to BVS, Dr. Steve practiced at Sunrise Equine Veterinary Services in North Branch, Minnesota.  Steve has always loved horses and from a young age dreamt of becoming a veterinarian.   Dr. Graham is currently learning the art of competitive carriage driving.  In his free time, Steve enjoys time with his wife, their daughter and the family cat.

 

Sarah Hanna, DVM

Dr. Hanna grew up riding horses in Green Bay and attended the University of WisconsinMadison for both her degree in Kinesiology and in Veterinary Medicine.  After obtaining her DVM, she completed an internship at Littleton Large Animal Equine Hospital in Littleton, Colorado where she focused on lameness issues and complex medicine cases.  Dr. Hanna enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and takes a special interest in lameness, laminitis, and ophthalmology issues.  Her equine background includes competition in dressage and on the hunter/jumper circuit.  In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, camping, skiing and most of all, spending time with family, friends and her horse.

 

Leslie Szalla, DVM

Leslie graduated in 1999 with a DVM from Michigan State University.  She has a special interest in educating her clients in equine general wellness and cutting edge technology. In 2007, Dr. Leslie was certified as a veterinary acupuncturist by the Chi Institute in Reddick, Florida.  The clinic has expanded its services to include this wellness forum.  Dr. Szalla is an avid dressage rider.

 

Karen Forseth

Karen started at BVS in 1996.  After learning the in’s and out’s of the BVS clinic her interest in hands on veterinary care became evident.  When a position for a veterinary field assistant became available, Karen was the first to apply.  Whether in the field or in the clinic, she assists the doctors with surgeries, x-rays, immunizations and general horse wellness.  Karen has been a life long horse lover, taking horse education classes as early as the eighth grade.  She has owned horses all her adult life and currently resides with four lovable four-legged friends.  Karen is actively involved in the local English bulldog rescue group.  Besides horses, she enjoys her three dogs and a handful of barn cats.  Karen enjoys trail riding and camping, motorcycle rides with her husband and spending time with her family.

 

Dee Glenn

Dee, a native of Michigan, grew up riding horses and active in 4-H.  She attended Central Michigan University where she received her degree in Therapeutic Recreation.  After graduating, Dee spent six years employed with a chemical dependency and psychology agency.  During the following nine years, she was an account manager for Prescription Benefit Company.  Dee joined the BVS team in 2007 as an assistant to Dr. Borri.  Dee has practiced equine massage for over five years.  In her spare time she enjoys her two horses, competing in eventing and dressage.  She also enjoys bike riding, motorcycles, photography and spending time with her dogs.

 

Connie Kevek

Connie has been with BVS since 1985.  Her interest to be involved with the equine veterinary field evolved from a life-long interest and involvement with horses.  She spent several years as a veterinary assistant and in office administration before moving up to the BVS bookkeeper position.  Her knowledge of horses, their ailments, foaling and care is highly valued by her co-workers.  Connie and her children were involved in 4-H for many years.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, riding her horse, Miss Pea, jogging with her dog, Genny and wonderful winter Caribbean vacations.

 

Juliet (Jules) Paradowski

Juliet graduated from UW-Stevens Point, majoring in Biology with a minor in Captive Wildlife Management.  After working at the Racine Zoo for 11 ½ years, most recently as one of the animal curators, Juliet came to work for Bristol Vet in 2005.  When not working, Juliet enjoys reading, gardening, video games, and riding her scooter and motorcycle with her boyfriend.

 

Karen Schappe

Karen started at BVS in early 2008 as the laboratory technician.  Karen graduated from UW-Madison with a BS in Microbiology.  She then spent 12 years working at the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.  Karen has spent several years volunteering at the Dane County Humane Society and the Racine Zoo.  Karen has two cats and one dog.  On her free days, she enjoys spending time with her husband visiting zoos, canoeing and hiking.

  

Donna Thate

Donna is a graduate of UW-Madison with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business.  She spent over 15 years in a corporate business environment managing a microfilm company’s Midwest and Southwest areas.  After retirement, her love of animals called her to join the BVS team in 1992.  Donna has had a life long love and working relationship with animals and brings much pertinent experience to the services offered at BVS.  For years Donna bred and showed Arabians in Western Pleasure competitions.  Donna owns a 26 acre hobby farm.  Her love is in showing her Labrador Retrievers in conformation competition.  Her dogs are known world wide and have won several American Kennel Club championships.  Donna, her horses and dogs enjoy the good life at Chestnut Hills.
