Fredrick J. Culbert

The Bristol Veterinary Service Family would like to recognize the passing of a respected colleague and cherished friend, Dr. Fredrick J. Culbert on March 2, 2010.  Known to most as simply “Fred”, he was one of the original 1972 founders and partners of Bristol Veterinary Service.  In 1982 he helped establish Westosha Veterinary Hospital as a branch of Bristol Vet Service. Through primarily a large animal veterinarian, Fred may be best remembered for his pursuit of challenges the profession offered, such as working with large exotic species like ostriches, elephants, camels and bug cats.  His passion for learning dominated his personal like as well.  His interests spanned horticulture, new languages, wood crafting and foreign exchange students but to name a few.  A devoted homebody and family man, Fred relished his time with children and grandchildren.  Stories abound of farm calls with the antics of children in tow.

Though retiring from veterinary practice in 2004, Fred continued to provide a role model on how to be a professional.  Fred helped mold several generations of future veterinarians both in this country and abroad, while nurturing the well being of the community’s livestock and horses for four decades.

We at Bristol Veterinary Service with Sandy, his wife, children and grandchildren peace and sympathy as we mourn their loss while celebrating a good man and the legacy of his life’s work.  Fare ye well dear friend and know you will always be in our hearts and thoughts.
